Expanded description and explanation: This 5 week course will concentrate on the mechanisms that (-) strand RNA viruses and retroviruses employ to reproduce their genetic information. The teaching format will involve lectures and paper discussions.
This course represents the second course in a 3-course sequence (GMS 6034, GMS 6035 and GMS 6036) dealing with the molecular biology and genetics of viruses, where the emphasis in this course is on the molecular mechanisms of replication of RNA viruses. The first course focuses on the genetics of viruses and (+) strand RNA viruses and the third course focuses on DNA viruses.
