College of Medicine Doctoral Mentoring Awards |

PURPOSE:
These
awards are to encourage and reward excellence, innovation, and effectiveness in
graduate student advising. Excellence
will be demonstrated by student letters, letters of support from the department,
and a personal statement.
AWARD:
Each
year, ~3 faculty members will receive an award plaque, and up to two nomination
packets may be forwarded for the
UF Dissertation Mentoring
Award.
ELIGIBILITY
CRITERIA:
1. Criteria are similar to those for the UF Dissertation Mentoring Award.
2. Faculty must actively support graduate education through teaching, service on graduate committees and sponsorship of graduate student research, and be on the list of faculty eligible for the UF award.
Eligible for UF and COM Award: M Atkinson, E Chan, M Clare-Salzler, N Denslow, B Dunn, A Edison, M Kilberg, A Lewin, L Morel, B Petersen, W Reeves, J Resnick, D Steindler, W Streit.
Eligible for UF Award: P Sayeski, M Wallace (individuals who have received a COM Dissertation Mentoring Award during the previous two years are not eligible for the COM award, but they may still be nominated for the UF award.)
3. The nominee must have graduated (served as committee chair or co-chair) at least two doctoral students with dissertations in the past five years.
4. Nominations for Dissertation Mentoring Awards will be accepted from graduate students, former graduate students, faculty members, department chairs, and graduate coordinators (advanced concentration directors). Individual faculty members may not nominate themselves.
5. The application packet must include at least two letters of support from the faculty member's current or former graduate students (preferably more than just two). At least one of the letters must come from a former doctoral student of the nominee. Letters of support should include anecdotes and emphasize why the candidate is a good mentor.

4. Graduate Faculty Supervisory Committee Activity
Report (prepared by Office of Graduate Education)
5. Personal statement from the nominee
6. Waiver of Access Form (included in the Doctoral Mentoring Award Application Packet)
7.
