If you are considering applying to the Interdisciplinary Program in Biomedical Sciences (IDP) PhD graduate program, welcome!  Here is some guidance for using our web pages.  Information on how to apply can be found by clicking on the “Admissions” link above.  The IDP consists of six concentrations (can be thought of as majors) with faculty who are members of eight basic science departments between the Colleges of Medicine and Dentistry.  To learn about the concentrations and departments, click on the “Programs” link above.  Applications are made to the program as a whole, not to a specific concentration or faculty member.  The curriculum of study consists of a common set of first semester core courses with two laboratory rotations through the fall semester.  More specialized introductory courses are offered for first year students in the spring semester along with a third laboratory rotation.  By the end of the spring semester, first year students choose their dissertation mentor and concentration.  After that, students form their dissertation committee and prepare for their qualifying examination by taking at least six additional hours of advanced courses and attending journal clubs.  Most of the hours towards the degree are in research.  All of this is explained in the “Curriculum” link above.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us using the link at the bottom of the page.
